Curriculum Information

Math

Our math curriculum is called Bridges in Mathematics. This curriculum has been adopted by school districts across the country. Bridges seeks to create concrete experiences for what are the often abstract concepts of math. In preschool we will learn the foundational math skills needed for all other mathematical learning! In addition to this curriculum we will encourage organic explorations with math throughout the day.

Language Arts

The skill most families name as wanting young children to learn when they begin school is reading. Our preschool is committed to giving your child the building blocks to build their pre-reading skills. We focus on the paired skills of phonics and phonemic awareness during our literacy circle. Heggerty focuses on phonemic awareness, the ability to recognize and distinguish sounds (no print involved). Zoo-phonics focuses on phonics, the ability to pair letters with sounds. In addition to these box curriculums we will also focus on providing a literature rich environment by engaging with books, poetry, and writing each day.

The following are not boxed curriculum but still play an important role in children's development and our day!

Science

Often this is the subject children get most excited about, and who can blame them? Science can be such a fun hands-on subject that it gets us excited too! Our hobby-farm location makes life science a breeze, but we also will incorporate studies in physical science and earth science.

Social-Emotional

This encompasses all the skills needed for good relationships. These skills are learned and practiced all day long. Special focus will be given during circle time when students will practice taking turns and communicating with peers. However, playtime is when the real practice begins and these important skills are put to use.

Arts and Crafts

We use a combination of arts and crafts to help your child develop. Pure art helps them develop creativity and discover their own sense of expression. Crafts are useful for learning to follow a sequence of instructions. Crafts also allow teachers to make sure everyone practices fine motor skills.

Music and Movement

Not a separate area of study, rather music and movement are incorporated into every subject throughout the day! Music has been shown over and over to form some of the strongest memories. By attaching learning to music we can help children cement those memories faster and stronger.

Play

The most important part of our day (really!) is playtime. We believe in free play - letting children make their own decisions about what activities they want to participate in. We have a variety of playthings to appeal to multiple personalities: puzzles, dolls, kitchen, stuffed animals, dress-up, and more!
